EoP Q 4 JSE Chief: EoP TRC or No EoP TRC Nation Building Agenda?:
But the thing that Fourie is passionate about, and which persuaded her to leave her job in Australia for a period, is the role the JSE can play in nation-building. “We have a unique role to play. It’s a question of putting our best foot forward.” The JSE should also become a leader in sustainable development. The exchange already has a green segment for the listing of bonds that will help cities and towns transition to a low-carbon economy. It plans to introduce a sustainable development bond, which could be used to finance housing or other social infrastructure, she says. And a blue bond – to finance water infrastructure – is also being considered. Fourie is co-chair of the Global Investors for Sustainable Development Alliance, a global group of 30 people who aim to unlock long-term financing for the world’s sustainable development goals and facilitate a movement away from the current focus on short-term returns. The other SA CEO on this group is Investec head Fani Titi. – Business Maverick: Nation-building is high on new JSE chief’s agenda.
Gro Harlem Brundtland is a Norwegian politician, who served three terms as Prime Minister of Norway who is known for having chaired the Brundtland Commission which presented the Brundtland Report on sustainable development. Brundtland narrowly escaped assassination by Anders Behring Breivik on 22 July 2011. During his trial in 2012, Breivik revealed detailed assassination plans for Brundtland. He told the court that he had planned to handcuff her and then record himself reading out a prepared text detailing her “crimes”, before decapitating her on camera using a bayonet and uploading the footage to the internet. Breivik said that while Brundtland had been his main target, he had still planned to massacre everyone else on the island. – Wikipedia: Gro Harlem Brundtland.
Jason Brent: There are no differences between economic and sustainable development. The concept of sustainable development was created by fools and cowards who were afraid to advise humanity that since the earth and the resources it can provide humanity are finite, both economic and population growth must and will cease in the very near future. They are attempting to confuse and mislead humanity by putting the word “sustainable” in front of the word “development” they can convince humanity that economic growth will continue forever into the future and humanity will not have to face the stoppage of growth. Everyone who created the concept or use the words “sustainable development: should be executed for crimes against humanity and pure stupidity and arrogance – Quora: Jason Brent A: What is the difference between economic and sustainable development?

In September 2017, American Renaissance, a white nationalist magazine, presented a question to their readership: “What does it mean for whites if climate change is real?” In the ensuing several hundred words, the publication deviated from decades of right wing doctrine in order to propose an ethno-nationalist perspective on global warming. …. Ultimately, political leaders in the Global North can denounce El Paso and Christchurch and offer thoughts and prayers. But failing to both dramatically curb global warming and open borders to refugees in the face of migration spurred by climate change will in the end have far deadlier consequences than any 8chan eco-fascist with an assault rifle. – Honi Soit: When the far right believes in climate change, via American Renaissance: When the Far Right Believes in Climate Change.
In the absence of global pollution mitigation, anthropogenic emission of carbon dioxide into the Earth’s atmosphere will raise global temperatures ……. “Before, they were only looking at balance sheets,” she said. “They still do, but they’re also asking questions about how climate change can affect cash flow, costs, revenues, profits.” Ferguson said he has also seen an increase in credit ratings actions based on climate risks being a major factor. Between 2015 and 2017, he said, about 15 percent of corporate global ratings actions were based on climate risks as a main factor. Still, Rachel Cleetus, the lead economist and climate policy manager at the Union of Concerned Scientists, thinks the financial sector could be doing more, especially when it comes to pressuring high-risk areas and industries to adapt more quickly to climate risks. “Everyone agrees that the science is real, the risk is real,” she said, “but the market isn’t accurately pricing it yet.” – Moodys: The Economic Implications of Climate Change; Inside Climate News: Climate Change Becomes an Issue for Ratings Agencies.
Habib Ahmadzadeh: Wars occur only because the West gives a fake definition of real and sustainable [procreation and consumption below ecological carrying capacity limits] peace. Leon Billings: You are never going to effectively deal with a multi-state [procreation and consumption above ecological carrying capacity limits] pollution problem with a voluntary program. – Tehran Times: Iranian writer says wars happen because of West’s fake definition of peace; PBS Frontline: Poisoned Waters.
‘Two of the world’s biggest fund management bosses have called for a rethink of capitalism and its obsession with constant economic growth, in a plaintive appeal for business and governments to deal more decisively with the challenges of climate change. Anne Richards, chief executive of Fidelity International, said the world must end “our obsession with ever-increasing GDP” and the “primacy of shareholders” to foster the kind of long-term thinking that would help protect the environment. Andreas Utermann, CEO of Allianz Global Investors, said the world’s growth mania — “nominal GDP growth, supported by population growth, [and profit] growth” — was clearly unsustainable, and suggested that capitalism in its current form is “borrowing from the future while destroying the environment”. – Financial Times: City fund managers call for rethink of capitalism, via Gail Bradbrook.
