Upd Re: SQWorms small scale farmer Covid-lockdown exemption

As previously noted: according to my interpretation of SA Covid 19 Disaster Management essential services rules, I shall check with the SA Police, I provide small scale farmer essential services.

Nearly 15 000 companies have already registered as providers of essential goods and services. Most of these have been in food supply, medical and pharmaceutical services, and transport services,” said the department. Only companies, spaza shops, healthcare professionals and farmers permitted in terms of the lockdown regulations will be allowed to continue operating through the period. Healthcare professionals registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, sole proprietors who provide essential goods and services (like spaza shops), and small-scale farmers will not have to register through the Bizportal,” it said. – SA News: Over 1000 companies registered on COVID-19 Bizportal.

At 17:00 hrs today, 10 April 2020, I requested the George Police Station to clarify where I could get get written small scale farmer essential services lockdown exemption permission; to travel to my worm farm once every two weeks to feed the worms, and attend to any small scale farming activities required.

I spoke to Warrant Officer Jonker, who asked various questions, as to what kind of small scale farm it was, where it was situated, how far I would need to travel, how many people I would get into contact with and so on. I answered all his questions.

He said I would not need written permission as it fell under the Disaster Management essential services small scale farmer definition. He consented to me traveling to 18 Chestnut St once every two weeks, to feed the worms and attend to any small scale farming activities required, making sure that I maintain social distancing rules with anyone at 18 Chestnut St; and that I should take my SQWorms business card while traveling to and from 18 Chestnut St, and if anyone asks, confirm that he gave me permission.
