Lastly, the authorities stopped taking each other seriously. In the final act, Yeltsin got up on a tank and spoke the words “Former Soviet Union.” If there is a difference between the Soviet and the American approaches to maintaining a sense of normalcy, it is this: the Soviets tried to maintain it by force, while the Americans’ superior approach is to maintain theirs through fear. Donald Trump: There is a principle at work, you have a prenuptial agreement, which is a signed agreement by a sophisticated man and woman, that confirms that two people agree on something. Thousands of people throughout the United States sign these. They are traumatic to sign, I mean you go up to your future wife and you say ‘by the way darling I love you and love you, but just in case we have to get divorced I want you to sign this prenup agreement’. I’d like to recommend this. And you fight like cats and dogs. So the reason prenups are good is that you can settle things in friendly times. There is a great principle at work. Thousands of people in New York sign these, in order to save the court’s time and resources. Can you imagine having all of these divorce actions where people have no prenuptial agreements especially in a place like New York. The courts would be overburdened. They wouldn’t be able to work, you’d have trials that would last years infront of competent capable judges that wouldn’t be able to do anything to solve the problem. The reason you do this is for certainty. You always want to have certainty over your life and your business. A prenuptial agreement is a perfectly drawn up instrument, its iron clad. …. The most difficult aspect of the prenuptial agreement is informing your future wife (or husband): I love you very much, but just in case things don’t work out, this is what you will get in the divorce. There are basically three types of women and reactions. One is the good woman who very much loves her future husband, solely for himself, but refuses to sign the agreement on principle. I fully understand this, but the man should take a pass anyway and find someone else. The other is the calculating woman who refuses to sign the prenuptial agreement because she is expecting to take advantage of the poor, unsuspecting sucker she’s got in her grasp. There is also the woman who will openly and quickly sign a prenuptial agreement in order to make a quick hit and take the money given to her.” – CNN: Donald Trump Talks About His Prenup Agreement After His Divorce 1990; Trump: The Art of the Comeback, with Kate Bohner, 1997; HuffPost: 17 Of The Most Absurd Things Donald Trump Has Said About Marriage.

Mitch McConnell: The Post Lockdown Pandemic will be the lawsuit pandemic.

As unemployment rises and an increasing number of workers raise safety concerns over the coronavirus, lawyers in the class action bar predict that the largest group of class actions filed over the COVID-19 outbreak is likely to come from employees. Among the allegations: employers denied wages, discriminated during layoffs, or put workers in unsafe conditions. So far, employees for the government, a hand bell factory and a hair salon have filed class actions, and lawyers predict many more to come, as millions of people file for unemployment claims. “We’re going to see a huge explosion of litigation related to this,” said Karl Lindegren, co-chair of California Litigation Practice Group at Fisher & Phillips. “You’ve got some very wealthy, well-established collective action lawyers there who won’t be shy about taking this on.” – Law.com: Lawyers Predict a ‘Huge Explosion’ in Worker Class Actions Over COVID-19.

The former infantry captain said: “There will be many questions, difficult questions that will be asked. In the future, there will be a Chilcot-esque type of inquiry, no doubt.” The Chilcot inquiry – formally known as the Iraq Inquiry – was led by Sir John Chilcot and reviewed the government’s involvement in the Iraq War and the actions of the then Labour prime minister Tony Blair. Stan McChrystal: There is a time for dissent and a time to shut the fuck up.
So here’s my view on dissent. Dissent is important. The problem with dissent is that there’s a time and place for it, and there’s a time and place not to have it. I tell people, “When the landing-craft ramp drops and hits the beach, that’s not the time to discuss the plan.” Unhealthy dissent goes away when you show your team respect, engage them in the process and pass information along to them. Give them as much transparency into decision making as is possible and practical to do.But everybody needs to understand that there’s a point–once a decision has been made or a line has been crossed–at which dissent is no longer appropriate, unless it is very carefully and very maturely provided in the right time, place and way. And that takes a deft hand. What I’m saying is that it’s not okay to bitch about everything all the time and fight things. There’s a time to shut up and execute, and the organization should be schooled in that. When we work with companies, we explain that planning and executing a task has three phases. The first phase is information gathering, and the second is considering what information to include. These two phases are when you talk things out; dissent at this point is not only essential but also a moral responsibility. If you’ve got something to say, you’ve got to say it then. After a decision is made, it’s probably no longer appropriate to say anything. In reality, I’m not that black and white, because there might be things emerging after the fact that people should know. But if you didn’t speak during those first two phases, I think it’s inappropriate to raise things that aren’t of an emergency nature. – Forbes: Combat Consultant: Q&A With Retired General Stanley McChrystal.

JFK: I’ll make this decision alone if I must…
What if you can’t get a consensus in Washington tomorrow? John F Kennedy: President Lincoln once put a proposition before his cabinet. The vote was nine Aye and one Nay. The Nay vote was Lincoln’s and the proposition was defeated. I’ll make this decision alone if I must, but it will be infinitely better if the executive departments support me all the way, because they participated in the decision, they understand it, and they believe in it.  ….. Nikita Krushchev: Your country invaded Cuba once, we have an obligation to defend her. If someone is attacked with a pistol the pistol is an offensive weapon, but if Cuba uses that same pistol to defend herself, it is a defensive weapon. We have an obligation to defend Cuba and we will do so. The weapons we have furnished include anti-aircraft and ballistic missiles, with conventional and thermonuclear warheads. If you want to satisfy yourself on that point all you have to do is attack Cuba, Americans will find out very quickly. I’m not interested in the destruction of the world, but if we all want to meet in hell, its up to you. Mr. President, we and you ought not now to pull on the ends of the rope in which you have tied the knot of war, because the more the two of us pull, the tighter that knot will be tied. And a moment may come when that knot will be tied so tight that even he who tied it will not have the strength to untie it, and then it will be necessary to cut that knot, and what that would mean is not for me to explain to you, because you yourself understand perfectly of what terrible forces our countries dispose. Consequently, if there is no intention to tighten that knot and thereby to doom the world to the catastrophe of thermonuclear war, then let us not only relax the forces pulling on the ends of the rope, let us take measures to untie that knot. We are ready for this. – Peter Jennings: The Missiles of October: What the World Didn’t Know.

Grab an Able Reason Ego Ready Room Death Panel Rock: Draw a Sincere Peacenik / Honourable Warrior Ecocide Footprint Line
Marcus Luttrell: I was in bad shape, I was dying and I didn’t know what to do. I was lying against this tree and looking at the moon and feeling sorry for myself. I lay there and said you are being a bitch, get up, lets go. What was I going to do, lay down there and die? I was thinking I am still alive, so the mission is still on, lets go. So I reached out and I grabbed a rock, and I reached out as far as I could and I drew a line with it in infront of me. I said I am going to crawl to that line, if my feet hit it, and I am still alive, I am going to do it again. I did that for seven miles. ……….  Gen James Cartwright: The speed of informing someone, of bringing key relevant information was so much quicker in a brutal no rank ready room, the downside that we have found is extremely small, the upsides are the intellectual capital, the speed to which you gain information; and context for decisions, and planning and execution. I have not found anything that comes even close. If you decide to enter into a conversation as a senior person, in at least rank, you can be globally stupid, and you can do it very quickly and if that bothers you, then you are going to have to toughen up the hide. In the military structure, that is something that is a paradigm shift. But if you can’t stand being globally stupid once in a while, this is not the space for you. – Lone Survivor: Trailer: Marcus Luttrell: Draw a Line; BizofGov: US Strategic Command: Gen James Cartwright 01.02.03.
